Formed in 2000, the Hunger Prevention Coalition is operated by citizens who have been or are involved in nonprofit agencies addressing hunger in Central Oregon and by those who are passionate about making nutritious food available to all. Agencies affiliated include those that work with Neighbor Impact to receive and distribute food from the Oregon Food Bank.
Since that time we have reviewed hundreds of grant applications, distributed over a HALF MILLION dollars in funding, and scrutinized hundreds of grant funding reports. Agencies are funded after showing they serve anyone in need, and will direct HPC funding to purchase items that increase the nutritional value of the meals or food boxes distributed. Agencies are held accountable by providing proof of purchase of these items in their yearly auditable report.
Our meetings are open to all who are interested, with a special goal of bringing food-provider agencies together to share their successes and challenges. This has resulted in sharing of resources and ideas.
