HPC Receives Grant from the Bank of the Cascades

The Hunger Prevention Coalition was just awarded a grant from the Bank of the Cascades in the amount of $500.  This grant will go toward assisting Bend’s Community Center with the Annual Community Thanksgiving dinner this year.  The money will be used to purchase needed fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and other nutritious foods for the day.  In the past the Thanksgiving dinner has served over 300 hot meals at the Trinity Church on Wall street in Bend.  Taffy Gleason, the executive director at Bend’s Community Center expects to double the number this year.  This will be an all-day event that will serve a variety of folks including senior citizens, disabled individuals, the homeless and families with children.  Recent downturns in the economy have increased the numbers seeking assistance, including more young families that are now homeless or at risk of being so.  If you are interested in more information about the event please visit the Bend’s Community Center website or call Taffy Gleason at 541-312-2069
