Generous Giving Supports HPC

Notable recent grants from the Oregon Community Foundation highlight a generous spirit of giving to the Hunger Prevention Coalition of Central Oregon in the first four months of its fiscal year. Each quarter, HPC distributes funds to member agencies in the tri-county area to improve the nutritional content of meals and food boxes through the addition of meat, dairy, produce, eggs, and other high-cost/high nutrition foods. At the HPC annual meeting and round-table in September, member agencies reported that the numbers of our neighbors needing food (in the form of meals and food boxes) continues to grow.

Four of the recent grants from the Oregon Community Foundation will be used exclusively for the purchase of nutritious food by HPC member agencies: $10,000 from the Elga Brown Fund, $5,000 from the Mary Ellen Fay Fund, $1,000 from an Anonymous Fund, and $3,000 from the McCleary Family Fund. A fifth grant for $5,000 from the Robert G. Kirby Fund of the OCF supports HPC operating funds.

HPC was also honored recently by the Central Oregon Association of Realtors with a $1,500 grant. Generous shoppers at supporting area grocery stores also donate significant funds each month through the “Help fill Empty Plates” program. Every dollar raised through the Empty Plates program is distributed to member agencies for the purchase of nutritious food for our neighbors.

If you would like to help add nutritious food to your neighbors meals, please look for the green“Donate” button at the top of the HPC website.
