January UPDATES

Largest ever quarterly distribution!

In these trying times, we are delighted to announce that HPC’s January 2021 quarterly distribution to our 13 partner agencies (food banks and food kitchens) totaled $23,900! A significant portion of this total comes from the Help Fill Empty Plates program implemented in regional stores, 100% of which is used to help increase the quality and quantity of nutritional food distributed. We would like to say an enormous THANK YOU to Central Oregonians for supporting your neighbors in need.

We would also like to thank the area stores who place Help Fill Empty Plates placards by their registers and forward the funds on to HPC for distribution, including: the Newport Avenue Market in Bend and their associated market Oliver Lemon’s in Terrebone, Food4Less, C&K for Ray’s, and SVDP – La Pine Social Service. If you would like to add a placard or two near your store’s registers, please fill out the form at the bottom of the Help Fill Empty Plates page.

Other notable gifts this past quarter included the Bookworm Box, a monthly subscription service in Texas that seeks member suggestions for worthy non-profits to support; First Presbyterian Centsability; and several others through matching gifts, foundations, and our online donation portal. Our community is indeed broad and generous.

Unitarian Universalist Fellowship gift

In November, Robin Popp, HPC Board President, participated and led a discussion (via Zoom) with seven local food providers on “Food Insecurity in Central Oregon” to the Women’s Group of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Oregon. Robin was then asked to give a presentation to the congregation about how HPC assists in relieving food insecurity. A special collection resulted in donations to HPC totaling $2,200 to support this work.

Les Schwab contribution committee

After generously awarding HPC a $5,000 grant earlier in the year to feed the hungry in Central Oregon, Les Schwab Contribution Committee wrote on December 31 “we are happy to inform you that at the end of 2020 we were able to review all organizations who support those core areas we are focusing on and approved your organization for an additional $5,000.”
