Is a whole banana better than half a banana? The Hunger Prevention Coalition of Central Oregon believes so. Nutrition is their mission. Insuring healthy food, dignity and improved quality of life are all reasons why this organization has been dedicated to providing fresh fruits, vegetables, produce and protein since 2000. This year the Coalition has supported food pantries, meal sites and delivery systems in Central Oregon with $72,540, an increase of nearly $30,000 over the same period a year ago in an effort to address increasing demands.

The Help Fill Empty Plates program helps generate funds for the Coalition to support food outlets throughout the region including Family Kitchen, Meals on Wheels, The Giving Plate, Bethlehem Inn, Warm Springs Pantry, Jericho Road’s student backpacks, Nativity Lutheran’s Food Pantry, Holy Trinity’s Sunriver Food Pantry and St. Vincent De Paul pantries. The provision of fresh fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs and other proteins are critical in maintaining the health of children and adults experiencing food insecurity.
